The Administration's Israeli Follies

.
Quickest history review ever. Many scholars believe World War II was the highpoint of our American nation. They believe that was our apogee . . . and we shall rise no more. In their eyes World War II demanded the rapid industrialization that enabled us to rule the world for a little while . . . . and it's been all down hill since.

I choose to look at America just a mite differently. Despite Ronald Reagan's famous vision, I don't see it as a shining city on a hill.  I see America as an EXPERIMENT yet to be proven. Rregardless of our means of land acquisiton, we now have distinct borders surrounding us. Our politicians are pledged to protect and preserve  our property and citizens within  the borders. Since 1776, with just a few exceptions, they have succeeded.

The Civil War was not the first,  but it was perhaps the most challenging early conflict.

50 years afterword, America joined it's friendly European relatives to wage World War I.  Another a costly enterprise not yet completely resolved. Somebody thought it was the war to end all wars. It wasn't.

For many Americans World War I was  their first significant exposure to The Peaceful Religion of Islam. The world was very different then . . .  particularly in the middle east.  The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem (a Sunni leader appointed by the British) was trying to build Islamic power in the region. The Nazi Germany was attempting spread their influence. The middle east was populated with arab tribal factions fighting among themselves. Just before the war Turkey's Ottoman Empire controlled the areas that are today Lebanon, Syria and most of Jordan When Germany was defeated the British and French victors mandated divisions of the area with Lebanon and Syria going to the French. The territory of Palestine (today's Jordan and Israel) went to the British. These factions imposed their will on the entire middle east between the end of World War I and the beginning of World War II.

The area was a hot bed of intrique and hostility, and quickly became the breeding ground for Islamic terrorism.

Let me back up for a moment. In 1923 the British divided Palestine into one administrative area west of the Jordan River, and one administrative area east of the Jordan River. Most of the eastern portion was called Trans-jordan. A portion of Trans-Jorden to the south became part of Saudi Arabia. The land east of the Jordan River (Trans-Jordan) was intended to be the home of arab Palestinians. Then In 1937 the British and French  qgain divided the area and (more or less) created the present borders of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Yemen. These borders were crudely drawn without proper regard for the residents or the the geography. They guaranteed additional turmoil and hostility.

In 1948 the tiny new nation of Irael was established west of the Jordan River. The area contained few people. Most of the resident arab/Palestinians moved to Jordan. Jews had been settling in the area west of the Jordan River since the late 1800's. In 1948 the population of the new nation of Israel was mostly Jewish.

All of the middle eastern desert arab tribes protested immediately and violently.

Palestine, as such, did not exist as a land with borders in 1948. The name was applied to a leaderless collection of tribal desert arabs (only a few had voluntarily moved from the new state of Israel)  who had no government, no legal system (beyond Sharia law), no law enforcement, no infrastructure, no industry, no marketable agricultural products, inadequate fresh water, inadequate and medieval medical care, and so forth.

The problem is (and always has been) The Peaceful Religion of Islam whose adherrents are further divided into often violent sects within the religion. Disharmony between them has existed for centuries and remains a constant thoroughout the middle east. The one and only issue of agreement between the factions of Islam is their:

    (1) COMMON INTENTION TO EXTERMINATE ALL JEWS.
    (2) TO RECLAIM THE LAND OF ISRAEL.
    (3) TO KILL ALL NON-BELIEVERS IN INSLAM (INFIDELS).

Today we see four main divisions of Islam: Shia,  Sunni, Wahabbi Fundamentalists, and Islamic Terrorists from each of the other divisions.

More to come.
Check facts and time frames.
Why America must continue to support Israel.
Should Israel remain the only nuclear power in the region.
What can be done to eliminate arab genocidal hatred of Jews.
Can the loony left in America deal with terrorists.

Gloves Off

. OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS BETRAYED OUR TRUST AGAIN. Whether we are Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, makes no difference at all. Our legislators voted according to "what's best for them". It was clear that the people want to reduce the costs and improve access to our overall health care system. It was also VERY CLEAR that they did not want the 2000 page legislative monstrosity that was produced by a small number of far left liberal Democrats, who worked behind closed doors to fashion a pork filled blunderbuss that virtually no one has been able to read, or discuss, or debate, or offer alternatives to specific unreasoned clauses. It is (now) a BAD BILL , passed by BAD POLITICIANS, that compose a BAD MINORITY segment of America's out-of-control government. AND WE HAVE NO LOGICAL WAY TO PAY FOR IT EITHER. The far left liberals like to point at  SOCIAL SECURITY   as a text book success. They are wrong and will not admit it despite the concrete evide

Why Blackwater Mercenaries

Over some years the name Blackwater shows  up in the news. It is, by their own estimation, the largest mercenary group in the world. I think I first noticed it when reports from Iraq mentioned they were employed (by whom?) to escort and protect members of the Iraqi government from place to place. Then I became aware that they had joined several of the firefights between our marines and Iraqi enemies. I wondered just how these mercenaries (that supposedly came from the United States) were  hired by someone (who?) to fight? That led to the question of just who would be responsible if a situation involved the accidental killing of an innocent bystander? It  might be a little sticky for an unauthorised mercenary contracted by the United States but not a member of our military forces.  Or suppose a Blackwater type killed a military Iraqi combatant and was then captured by the enemy. Would he be treated as a spy, or as a American combatant, or whatelse?  And would the Geneva Convention

Peter Arnett Visits The Geezers

PETER ARNETT 7-22-2010 Yesterday our guest at the  Geezer's Book Club meeting was the intrepid journalist, Peter Arnett.  Ray Herndon, one of our regular members, has known Peter Arnett for over  40 years. They were friendly competitive reporters during the war in Viet Nam, and the friendship has survived several wars since.  Peter began speaking with an overview of his time in  Viet Nam, and then briefly related a few highlights of the first 1st and 2nd war in Iraq.  After taking a deep breath, Peter focused on the intended subject of the day, China and the Chinese people.   CHINA Peter is now teaching journalism at a college about 400 miles north of Hong Kong, near the Chinese coast. Peter is 76 years old, in good health, full of energy and enjoys his job as an educator. In that capacity he is able to travel unhindered (not everyone can) throughout China. He has personally observed the daily trials, troubles and opportunities that abound in this huge and complicated countr
